A Vast, Terrible Army with Banners
For All Saints Day, Pastor Chris gave us four or five good reasons to "see the Saints," as he called it. We modern-day believers have a hard time envisioning the whole of the Body of Christ for the reality it is, "a vast, terrible army with banners," as C.S. Lewis's demon Screwtape describes it. The church's narrow vision of the saints is a help and aid to our ancient enemy. But truly seeing the saints-- the whole of the Body-- will go a long way toward properly reorienting us as we walk out our baptisms in an upside down world.
