Backwards-Looking Perseverance
We began a Lenten series focusing at perseverance with a brief look at the dictionary definition of the word, then a closer examination of a passage in Deuteronomy. The Children of Israel surely had to persevere for many years in their desert wandering, but now that they were on the cusp of entering the Promised Land, Moses shows them that part of persevering in the here and now might involve both looking backwards and forwards-- away from the current circumstance.
