A Tough Epiphany

Mark Twain once said, “It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.”

Our Scripture on this day confronted us with a small portion of a sermon— a teaching— of Jesus that’s, well, tough. And, the truth is, it’s not tough to understand. The putting of it into practice is the difficult part.

In this day of political division and contempt in our own country, not to mention the more specific horrifying treatment of Christians in places far away, how will we love our enemies?
