A Clash of Kingdoms
On this Christ the King Sunday, our Scripture readings set up a clash of kingdoms: The Kingdom of God and the Roman Empire. When Jesus met Pilate face to face, a bystander would have to assume that the Roman governor held all the power. But did he? How might Pontius Pilate's "resumé" compare with Jesus'? And what might a comparison betwen the Roman Empire and the Kingdom of God reveal?
