Covenant 101

The message for God's people in the Book of Jeremiah just gets worse and worse. The verses of chapter two hit one after another like heavy footfalls, and the passage is thick with covenant imagery and language: The Great King reminds the people of His generous providence, of where they came from, and how they got to the land of plenty. The Mighty Sovereign draws a sharp distinction between His worth and the worthlessness of the things they chose over Him. And then this (perhaps the most dramatic, most sobering part of all): God calls upon the witness of heaven and earth to verify what He is saying and affirm the accusations. Grab a Bible, turn to Jeremiah 2, and see how a better understanding of covenant makes the passage come alive.
